History

When Bill Young started the business in the fifties, WA Young was a small manufacturer of canvas goods, such as tarpaulins and motor bike rugs. Tim received an email in 2009, from a customer who was reading a motor cycling magazine from 1954 and saw an advertisement made by Bill. Check it out HERE.

The company continued to manufacture a variety of canvas goods and later moved into goods constructed from woven shade cloth.

In 1978, Bill sold the business to David Seymour-Smith, who very quickly focused the business into manufacturing products made entirely from shade cloth. In the early 80's, David bought a small engineering company, in order to incorporate steel frames into the company's capabilities for manufacturing his developing range of domestic and commercial growing houses.

The 80's also saw the emergence of knitted shade cloth - the stronger and superior brother to its woven pioneer - which has evolved into an extremely strong and versatile fabric from which many large free spanning products - such as shade sails and framed shades - can be made.

Today the company is run by David's son Tim, and primarily designs and constructs shade sail structures, awnings, umbrellas, and associated shade structures into markets all over the world.
